Welcome to the Hens Haven! This classic bungalow located in SoBro does a perfect job of blending the old charm and character of an old house with all of the modern day comforts to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Enjoy your morning coffee on the lovely front porch, or a glass of wine in the evening in the backyard with the chickens. My home has been comfortably furnished with mostly "reclaimed" or hand-me-down furniture and handmade pieces, giving it a clean, simple, and relaxing feel.
The space
Charm, charm, charm! Wonder through the house on old hardwood floors, passing through arched doorways that make this wonderfully appointed home special! I have taken great care to make my home as comfortable as possible for you while preserving as much of the original charm as possible. You will notice the wavy plaster walls, original light fixture in the hallway and original kitchen cabinets. The tub and tile in the bathroom are also original and I just love the blue! If you want to take a peek at something fun, you can take a look at some of the original wallpaper to the house in the living room coat closet! A lot of love and hard work has gone into making this house a home and I have done almost all of it myself. My goal is to provide you with all of the comforts of home while you are traveling to help make your stay in Indianapolis grand. You will enjoy the large kitchen to prepare a quick lunch or a delicious dinner. There is a separate dining room with plenty of space for all of your guests, but you might also prefer to dine on the back patio and enjoy the yard when the weather is nice. You can look forward to making yourself comfortable in one of two good sixed bedrooms, both with Queen sized memory foam beds. Made with fresh linens and plenty of pillows to choose from, you're sure to have a great nights sleep to prepare for the day ahead. Common living areas include the bright and cheery living room with a relaxed feel and slip covered couches, and the finished daylight basement stocked with games. There are 2 full bathrooms (one with tub shower) with all of the basic necessities provided for you. I also provide a pack n play and high chair for the convenience of those traveling with little ones. WiFi is provided so you can keep up with the day to day requirements of work. There are Chickens at The Hens Haven! If the girls are laying, I will leave fresh eggs!

Guests will have access to the entire property. The chicken coops is locked and I ask that guests do not enter.
Other details
As old houses go...there are some things you should know. The wood floors squeak. And Squeak. And SQUEAK. Yes, I know. And there is nothing I can do about it. They are 5/8", rift and quarterd, long cut, red oak top naild boards that are nearly 100 years old. DOes that mean anything to you??? Lets just say, you can't buy the stuff in the big box stores, so it's kinda special, and I kinda like it! So, lets embrace the SQUEAK! Some doord don't latch. This also comes with the house being almost 100 years old. All of the door stay closed when you push them closed, but some just don't latch.
Interaction with guests
I am alway available for questions as thay arise! The best way to reach me is by text. I work a lot of weekends at the hospital, so I might be delayed up to an hour in replying, so sorry for that. I am also onthe property almost daily taking care of the chickens, so please say hi if you have the opportunity!

Additional house rules
Hi there! Please treat my home as you would your own! But because we all have different standards of living here are my guidelines: **** I have a firm policy on NO PARTIES. The homes in my neighborhood are charming, but only about a driveways width apart. Excessive entering and exiting the house late at night is disruptive, so please, keep coming and going past 11 pm to a minimum. 1. You are welcome to use the kitchen, but please load and start the dishwasher or hand wash the dishes on the morning you check out. 2. Please bag all trash and place in blue trash can outside back door. 3. Please be sure to use the code to lock the door when you leave. 4. Turn off all lights and fans as well as space heater in the basement if it was used. 5. The thermostat is set with a program that is energy efficient, yet comfortable for the average guest. If you find the house to warm or cool, feel free to adjust the thermostat, but kindly lift the "hold" so the program will run when you depart. 6. If you make a mess...please clean it up! Extra cleaning charges will be charged of the house is excessively dirty or in disarray. 7. If you use the couches for sleeping , please make sure they are put back together with the cushions and pillows. 8. Please do not use the fireplace. ***The front door (after you enter the porch) has an electronic deadbolt. It is will light up if you press the "Schlage" button on the face of the lock (there are no buttons). Once lit, enter the code on the buttons and the door will unlock. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if anything goes wrong during your stay.
